GTO vs. GTO: AutoWorld 1:64 vs. Ertl 1:18 1966 Pontiac GTO

Just recently I found the new AutoWorld 1966 Pontiac GTO 1:64 in red from the first release.  How did I miss this one?  Well, first off I've seen the light blue version many times, but not the red.  Second, this was found in a Wal-Mart clearance section, plus the red color is awesome and, strangely, the only red 1965-1967 GTO in my collection!  Even more interesting is the fact that AutoWorld owns the older Ertl tools from the 1990's, including a 1966 GTO that I've had in my collection for about 15 years.  Let's see how the two compare. Click Here for Photo Gallery GeeTO The GTO was the first muscle car to start the so-called category in 1964 as a Tempest with more power under the hood.  It shares the same A-body shared with the Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS that was also released at the same time.  In 1965 the Tempest was now called LeMans, and now features new styling including the famous vertically-stacked headlights.  In ...

Hot Wheels Porsche 934 Turbo RSR, along with the 935 Slant-Nose, 993 GT2, and 2010 911 GT2

Hot Wheels has been making some strides with the Porsche line, really bringing out the best in details while trying to forget the mistakes of the past (P-911, Cayman, Boxster Spyder, Panamera).  The 934 Turbo RSR is the latest. Click Here for Photo Gallery Race car for the street The 934 is the race version of the Turbo designed to met FIA Group 4 rules.  This also meant that in order to complete a certain amount of stock road cars were to be produced as well.  The car was based on a 1976 Turbo, but boasted a larger and lower front bumper with more air ducts and a lightweight hood supported by hood pins and several access holes to access the gas tank and other fluids without opening the hood (though there's zilch trunk space).  The windows have support mounts, the side mirrors are more aerodynamic, and the rear fender flares have an even larger flair than the Turbo model has.  The rear Turbo wing is carried over, as does the taillight bar and bu...

Datsun 510 and 620 family by Hot Wheels

Wow, its amazing how fast this family came about.  In 2009 the 510 Bluebird 2-door sedan looked like a nice, but not-so-popular model that would grace the pegs at stores for a while.  Now it's the hottest item for collectors now, and its joined by the Wagon and 620 Pickup. Click Here for Photo Gallery Japan's BMW Introduced in 1968-1973 this 510 generation was known as the "poor man's BMW" and it shows.  The boxy shape resembles the BMW 2002, but with a Japanese flair like quad headlights with lower signal lights and rectangular taillights.  The interior has the same 2002 look with a flat dash, round gauges, and center radio and ventilation controls, not to mention seating for four in this roomy 2-door sedan.  The engine is a 1.6L SOHC I-4 producing 96 hp. through a 4-speed manual.  It's not powerful, but the car is light and features a 4-wheel independent suspension on a unibody chassis.  The simple, ease of maintenance and perfect ha...
