Pull Backs, Part 4: Welly Hyundai Genesis Coupe Mk. I
Probably one of the most surprising finds from the Welly pull back collection is the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, Version one, in Mirabeau Blue Metallic. Welly also makes a Version two based on the refreshed 2013 Genesis Coupe, and also Welly makes quite a bit of Hyundai/Kia pull-backs recently, though not all of them have appeared in the U.S. at least yet.

Mustang Fighter, Import Coupe Revival
The Genesis Coupe was introduced in 2009 as the coupe version of the Genesis sedan, Hyundai's first attack on the luxury sedan segment with Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Jaguar, Audi, Cadillac, Acura, and Infiniti. The Coupe, on the other hand, was designed to go after the two-door coupe market with Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, G37, and revive the Asian two-door, rear-wheel drive coupe market abandoned by the Japanese automakers back in the mid-1990's due to rising Yen at the time. The Coupe looks nice and swoopy with larger headlights and taillights that have the Japanese sports car look to them, as do the double 5-spoke wheels. The interior is more sportier than the sedan, but still seems contemporary compared to the competition. Engines include the 2.0L DOHC Turbo I-4 or the 3.6L DOHC V6 producing 306 hp. and 266 Ib.-ft. torque through either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic with manual shifting mode. The Genesis sedan V8 was considered, but was panned in the end. Auto journalists have mixed feelings for the car: The preferred choice is the V6 with automatic, with the manual having a sloppy shifter feel and the turbo I-4 feeling a bit underpowered. 2013 revision included new front-end styling and refinements to the suspension and powertrains. Still, the Genesis received mixed feelings, and some of the new refinements were criticized as being more harsh than before.

Welly version: Sharp and a t.v. star!
Standing in the blue color, the Genesis coupe look sleek and sporty. Careful attention was paid to the lighting, body shapes, rear spoiler, rear side window kinks, and even the badging and reverse sensors in the rear bumper. The base shows all of the drivetrain detailing despite the motorized setup in the back, and the interior is nicely done with the sunroof giving in some needed light to the dark interior, The dash with detailed buttons, steering wheel, console with the detail of the automatic's shift gate pattern, seats, luggage in rear to conceal the motorized setup, and separate inner door panels to match the curve of the dash beautifully done. It is one amazing casting! Also it should note that this version appeared in the TV series 'Burn Notice' as Fiona's new ride to replace the Saab 9-3 Convertible from previous seasons. The blue coupe lasted for two seasons before being replaced by a red 2013 version in the last season of the series. See you can find TV and film stars in diecast without having to say so on the package!

Can't wait to see what the 2013 casting provides. In the meantime I'll enjoy such a nicely done Asian sports car made to date by Welly.
