Greenlight 1972 Ford F-100 and Horse Trailer and Ram 2500 Tradesman and Heavy Duty Flatbed Trailer

Last month I reviewed the release 8 set of Hitch and Tow from Greenlight as all of them had new trailer toolings.  For release 9 most of them tools carry over with a few new truck models: a new classic Ford pickup and a toned down heavy duty Ram.

1972 Ford F100 and Horse Trailer

The newest truck casting for 2017 is the 1968 to 1972 Ford F100 pickup, a field that is already crowded with examples from M2 Machines to Hot Wheels.  Greenlight this time went for the regular cab, short bed in two-wheel drive and in the upcoming All-Terrain release in 4x4 as well.  This example starts out in a nice blue and white two-tone that nicely matches the Horse Trailer in the back.  The Horse Trailer returns in blue and white matching the truck with detailed diamond plate steel and a prancing horse along the sides.  Open the rear doors and you can find stalls for two horses with a metal pole in the middle and up front are access doors to storage areas.  I still wish the doors on this horse trailer would close flush and stay close as they tend to come back out.

The F100 has a chrome front grille with split grille and unlike M2 Machines the headlight frames are chrome and not blacked out.  Turn signal indicators are located between the grille and front bumper and also on the sides of the hood next to the F100 badge.  On the sides you get detailed chrome trim, nice big chrome towing mirrors, and silver 5-spoke wheel covers with whitewall rubber tires.  At the rear are detailed taillights, FORD on the tailgate, a trailer hitch, and Sport Custom along the sides of the bed.  The bed area is spacious and capable, and also note the holes in the bed for the upcoming roof rack accessory even though they ruin the look of the bed.  The interior is a nice dark cream color with 3-spoke steering wheel and nicely detailed controls on the dashboard, door panels, and bench seat.  The hood opens up to reveal the detailed 350 CID V8 in blue connected to a three-speed automatic transmission.  The details are not as crisp as the M2 casting and like the M2 casting the hood does not close flush; my tester required a little bit of force to get the hood to open up for the first time.  Also the base is rather light on details and will look odd when it has the lifted 4x4 axles with no transfer case.  While not the most exciting truck casting it is fitting into the Greenlight lineup quite nicely as a dedicated workhorse even if its towing horses.

Ram 2500 Tradesman and Heavy Duty flatbed trailer

In the last release the Ram 2500 heavy duty finally made its debut in a stock format outside of the Power Wagon editions in its first release.  Also debuting is the new flatbed trailer that is longer, built to handle larger and heavier vehicles, comes with a toolbox, lights, and a winch to pull out those stubborn barn finds.  Problem is that release also coincided with the Gas Monkey Garage license so we had to deal with gaudy graphics that for those who don't like the show never appreciated.  Fortunately in the next release this Ram and trailer are back to stock in matching red colors.  The trailer is still big and long requiring reflector tape along the sides .  The faux chrome hooks remain, as are the working ramps that don't like to rotate on thick red paint.  The accessories are nicely detailed and that weak spare tire mount still remains (after taking pictures of the set the flatbed's spare tire started to come apart just like the G.M.G trailer did).

The truck, while the same, is now a new trim level the lower-end Tradesman trim level.  This comes with lesser features, black bumpers, and 5-spoke steel wheels where on some of them they press too hard on the wheels causing them to flare out.  White letter Goodyear on the tires are a nice touch as well.  The front has a large black grille and the bumper still has the winch from the Power Wagon.  Foglights are gone and the headlights have a darker lens.  The hood still has the ribbed pattern as does the roof lights with antenna.  The sides show black door handles and a Cummins badge.  The rear has detailed taillights, black bumper, and dual exhausts from the Hemi models.  The RamBoxes are still there and join a bed area with a tonneau cover.  As mentioned the biggest news is the Cummins 6.7L turbodiesel I-6 motors that powers this Ram producing 385 hp and 900 Ib-ft of torque to a six-speed automatic transmission and two-speed transfer case.  With this power the truck can haul more with less strain than a gas engine would provide and works well with the heavy duty flatbed in the back.  The truck is also capable off-road and has great handling characteristics despite its size.  The interior still has seating for five and one of the best dash layouts of the business, though in this trim level expect low-end radio and simple HVAC controls.

These two are another nice addition to the Hitch and Tow line and expect them to get more use in the upcoming releases.
